Political Furor as Kangana Ranaut Demands Aadhaar for Meetings; Congress Criticizes

Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood actress and member of parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), caused controversy when she asked residents in her Mandi seat to bring their Aadhaar cards when they met with her. The “Queen” actor has additionally requested that anyone wishing to meet with her put the reason for the appointment in writing.

Ranaut stated that she is enforcing the restriction since so many foreigners and tourists are coming into her office. She stated that while she is in Mandi, the Himachal Pradesh seat she represents in the Lok Sabha, she will always be accessible to meet with guests at a designated conversation facility.

“Himachal Pradesh attracts a lot of tourists, so it is necessary to have an Aadhaar card from the Mandi area. Your work related to the constituency should also be written in the letter so that you don’t have to face inconvenience,” Ranaut told reporters during her visit to Mandi.

Ranaut stated that her job as an MP is to handle national-level concerns rather than panchayat or assembly matters during a public discussion on July 11. She asked people to only bring to her topics that are within her purview as a member of parliament so that her efforts can be focused on bigger, more significant matters.

Ranaut’s unusual decree ignited a political controversy. Vikramaditya Singh, the head of the Congress, has made a pointed jab at Kangana Ranaut. “A public representative should not require the residents of her parliamentary constituency to present their Aadhaar card in order to meet with her,” Singh stated.

In the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024, Kangana Ranaut defeated Mandi native Vikramaditya Singh, the son of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. In Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh, Singh serves as the PWD minister.

Kangana Ranaut, an actor who is also a politician, made headlines last month when she was accused of being smacked by a CISF officer at the Chandigarh Airport. Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF policeman who allegedly smacked Ranaut, may have been reinstated at Bengaluru airport, according to a social media post made earlier this month.
