As his mother Sonia Gandhi was being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate, Rahul Gandhi organized a demonstration and sat on a road in the middle of the capital before being taken into custody.
The Congress politician protested about a number of concerns, from price increases and the GST to the targeting of opposition leaders by investigation agencies, while sitting on Rajpath, the tight security boulevard close to parliament and major government offices.
Rahul Gandhi’s photo was posted by the Congress alongside one of his grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, participating in a comparable demonstration. The party tweeted, “History repeating.”
“I’m not trying to get arrested; I’m just protesting price hikes, unemployment, and for the voice of the people,” as told by Rahul Gandhi. He was observed pulling out his phone and taking a picture of the policeman as he sat by himself because the other people with him had already been arrested.
The police detained the Congress MP after a roughly hour-long standoff, and then they lifted him and placed him in the bus with the other jailed MPs.
As he was being brought away by the police, Rahul Gandhi declared, “India is a police state, and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi is a king.”
Sonia Gandhi, his mother and the leader of the Congress, appeared at the Enforcement Directorate for the second round of interrogation regarding the National Herald case in another area of the city.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra escorted Sonia Gandhi to the investigation agency’s office. Before participating in the demonstration at the legislature, Rahul Gandhi also went there.
A day after four of their party’s lawmakers were suspended for the duration of the monsoon session, Congress MPs protested what they saw as the opposition “being hushed” in the legislature. The MPs were stopped at the Vijay Chowk crossing as they attempted to march toward the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“As directed by the police, we are protesting. All of this is a plot by Amit Shah and PM Modi to silence the opposition and silence our voices. We won’t be alarmed, and we’ll keep fighting “declared Congressman and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
