On Sunday, March 16, 2025, a constable assigned to RJD politician Tej Pratap Yadav’s security detail was transferred to the police lines for uniformed dancing during Holi festivities at the former Bihar minister’s home.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office said in a statement released on Sunday, March 16, 2025, “With immediate effect, Constable Deepak Kumar, who was serving as MLA Tej Pratap’s security guard, has been sent to police lines for dancing in uniform. To ensure the MLA’s safety, Kumar will be replaced by another constable.
On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the RJD leader was at the center of a new controversy when the former Bihar Minister ordered the constable, who was supposed to be his security guard, to execute a “thumka” (pelvic thrust) or risk suspension. During Holi celebrations, the gory spectacle took place at the official bungalow of Mr. Yadav, the older son of former Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi.
The Hasanpur MLA is shown holding a microphone while sitting regally on a sofa that has been set up as a makeshift stage in one of the social media videos of his celebration that have gone viral.
“Ae sipahi, ae Deepak, abhi ek gana bajaenge jis par tumko thumka lagana padega. Nahin lagaoge to tumko suspend kar denge. Bura na maano Holi hai (Hey policeman Deepak…..we are going to play a song on which you shall perform a pelvic thrust. If you do not, you will suspended. Don’t mind. It’s Holi),” Mr. Yadav can be heard as saying before a musical band bursts into a devotional song that is often played during the festival of colours in Bihar.
The policeman did not appear to be particularly offended since, although not doing a “thumka,” he complied with Yadav by hopping a few times while holding his right arm high in the air.
In an apparent jab at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has twice sided with and defected from the RJD, Mr. Yadav drove a scooter on the streets next to his home while yelling “Happy Holi Paltu Chacha” and tearing off the clothes of the throngs of supporters who flocked to greet him. This was reminiscent of the “kapda faad Holi” that his father used to plan.
The owner of the scooter that the RJD MLA was traveling in was fined by the Patna Traffic Police on Saturday, March 15, 2025, for failing to have insurance for the vehicle, riding without a helmet, and operating a vehicle without a PUCC (Pollution Under Control Certificate). “The owner of the vehicle has been issued a ₹4,000 challenge,” Aprajit Lohan, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Patna, told the news agency.
