Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, an MLA for Ludhiana West and head of the Aam Aadmi Party, died from gunshot wounds on Saturday, January 11, 2025. According to authorities, the incident may have been “accidental fire” from his own licensed weapon.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja told the reporters, “According to the family members, he shot himself by accident and had bullet wounds to his head. Gurpreet Gogi was pronounced dead at the hospital, and his remains are being held in the DMC hospital mortuary. The DCP further stated that upon receipt of the post-mortem report, the cause of death would be ascertained.
The DCP went on to say, “Once the post-mortem reports are received, the cause of death will become evident.”
According to officials, the MLA was pronounced dead when he arrived at DMC hospital after the incident, which happened at approximately midnight.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh, “the incident happened around midnight, and he was declared dead when he was brought to the DMC hospital…”
Investigations are still under progress. In 2022, Mr. Gogi joined the Aam Aadmi Party and won the Ludhiana assembly elections, defeating Bharat Bhushan Ashu, a two-time previous Congress MLA.
