PM Modi’s Return to Bihar on May 4 Ahead of Crucial Elections

The second time in ten days that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the poll-bound state of Bihar is on May 4. On April 24, while in Jhanjharpur in the Madhubani area, Mr. Modi said that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror incident would face punishment “beyond their imagination.” On February 24, he also travelled to the State’s Bhagalpur and spoke at a public rally.

The Khelo India Youth Games 2025 will be officially opened by Mr. Modi on May 4 at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna. During his one-day visit, the PM will also launch a number of development initiatives, according to state BJP leaders. The competition will feature 28 disciplines and approximately 10,000 athletes and technical professionals from all over the nation. It will be held in five locations: Patna, Gaya, Rajgir, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai. Delhi will host shooting, track cycling, and gymnastics competitions. At the Patliputra Sports Complex, a central command and control facility has been established to act as the games’ operational centre.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the Patliputra Sports Complex on Sunday, April 27, to assess the mega event’s preparations ahead of Mr. Modi’s anticipated visit on May 4. He was accompanied by Raveendran Sankaran, the CEO and Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, as well as other officials. The Prime Minister had previously visited Jhanjharpur in the Madhubani district of North Bihar on April 24, two days after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. At an event, he vowed that the “terrorists and their backers would be punished beyond their imagination” as the gathering cheered, “Modi…Modi…”.

Speaking at the Madhubani event, Mr. Nitish Kumar praised the PM’s contributions to the development of Bihar and asserted that his party’s colleague and Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, was the cause of his party’s two previous political U-turns against the BJP. He said that “under your (Mr. Modi’s) leadership, Bihar is developing fast” and assured that his party would not make any political U-turn again.

Party officials and members have been urged to make the PM’s next one-day visit a “grand success,” according to State BJP leaders. Senior State BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary stated that Mr Modi is expected to launch a number of development projects in addition to the sporting event. Additionally, it is said that the PM will open the Bakhtiyarpur National Highway and the Simaria bridge over the Ganga.

On May 30, the PM might return to the poll-bound state. According to a senior BJP leader in the State who wished to remain anonymous, the location has not yet been determined, “but it is likely to be finalised after his May 4 visit to the State.” Party insiders, however, stated that the PM’s May 30 program might take place in Aurangabad, where the BJP “wants to consolidate its support base,” or in the Shahabad region, which borders eastern Uttar Pradesh. The ruling NDA leaders in Bihar have stated that they can win 225 of the 243 seats in the State Assembly when elections are held in October and November of this year.
