Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lay foundation stone for a series of projects worth ₹15,400 crore in Kolkata during his second visit within five days.
Mr Modi is on his ten-day visit to 12 states and union territories as part of his campaigning ahead Lok Sabha Polls this year.
The list of projects that are to be laid foundation to by the Prime Minister include the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata metro’s East-West corridor where India’s first underwater metro services will be commenced. This metro development costed total ₹4,965 to the government.
However, the Central Railways have announced that while the metro services will be inaugurated today but the passenger services will take a little more time.
To strengthen the urban mobility PM Modi will also flag off various train services during his visit to Kolkata today. The routes for which the train services will begin include Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections and the Kavi Subhash-Hemanata Mukhopadhyay.
Meanwhile, in the later afternoon the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public in Barasat region of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. Sandeshkhali is situated in the same region.
During his last visit to West Bengal, Mr Modi had addressed two public rallies in Krishnanagar of Nadia and Arambagh of Hooghly.
In his public address, the Prime Minister had criticised the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the “atrocities on women” of Sandeshkhali saying, the “entire country is seething with anger over the issue”.
