On Monday, June 16, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, which is the highest civilian honor given by Cyprus. After receiving the award, Modi said he felt honored and dedicated it to the strong friendship between India and Cyprus.

The award was presented by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides. The Order of Makarios III is Cyprus’s top knighthood, named after their first President, Archbishop Makarios III.

Modi dedicated the honor to the 1.4 billion people of India, saying it represents the trusted bond between the two countries. He expressed hope that their partnership would grow even stronger, helping both nations advance and contribute to global peace and security.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that the award reflects the lasting partnership between India and Cyprus and their shared goals for peace and prosperity.

Modi is currently in Cyprus, which is the first stop on his three-nation tour. After Cyprus, he will head to Canada for the G7 summit, followed by a visit to Croatia.
