In 44 raids undertaken over the course of the last two weeks, the government reportedly seized more than 18,000 toys from big retailers all around the nation, including Hamleys and Archies.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted raids or enforcement efforts against toy vendors for selling toys that did not meet BIS-specified quality standards.
In addition, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) allegedly violated a toy quality control order, according to sources, and sent notices to three major e-commerce giants, Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal.
The government has mandated that from January 1, 2021, toys must adhere to the Quality Control Order standards set forth by BIS.
On Thursday, BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari informed the media that the raids were carried out because the BIS had been getting complaints about violations against toy merchants and manufacturers from various sources.
Between December 28, 2022, and January 12, 2023, raids were carried out on WH Smith, Kids Zone, and Cococart retail establishments, which are situated at malls and airports all around the nation, in addition to Hamleys and Archies.
Tiwari added that merchants would be the target of legal action.
