No Irregularities in Maharashtra Polls, Says ECI in Response to Rahul Gandhi’s Rigging Allegations

The Election Commission has officially responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claims of rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra elections. It stated that all elections are conducted strictly according to laws made by Parliament and established rules.

The Commission highlighted that the entire election process involves thousands of people, including booth-level agents appointed by political parties. In a letter sent to Rahul Gandhi on June 12, the Commission explained that elections are managed locally at the assembly constituency level, with more than 1,00,186 Booth Level Officers, 288 Electoral Registration Officers, 139 General Observers, 41 Police Observers, 71 Expenditure Observers, and 288 Returning Officers overseeing the process.

Additionally, political parties appoint 1,08,026 Booth Level Agents across Maharashtra, with Congress alone appointing 28,421.

The Commission assumed that if there were any problems with the elections, Congress candidates would have already raised them in court through election petitions. However, it added that if Rahul Gandhi still has concerns, he is welcome to write to the Commission, and they are willing to meet with him in person to discuss any issues at a mutually convenient time.
