The primary suspect in the explosion that occurred on March 1 at the Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru has been taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The defendant, known as Muzammil Shareef, was apprehended as a co-conspirator following NIA teams’ operations at eighteen sites, including one in Uttar Pradesh, five in Tamil Nadu, and twelve in Karnataka.
The NIA is conducting an investigation into the explosion that left ten persons injured at the quick-service restaurant in the Brookefield section of the information technology corridor in east Bengaluru. The explosion was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED).
The main suspect, Mussavir Shazeeb Hussain, who carried out the explosion, was already identified by the terror investigate agency after they took over the case on March 3. The agency has also identified Abdul Matheen Taha, another suspected conspirator, who is wanted in relation to many other crimes. Both people are still on the loose.
According to the NIA, Muzammil Shareef gave the previously named accused parties involved in the incident—which involved an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) at the cafe—logistical support.
The three identified suspects’ homes as well as the residences and businesses of other people of interest were the targets of the raids, which were carried out on March 17 (Wednesday). A quantity of cash and a number of digital gadgets were seized during the searches.
The main suspect, wearing a mask and a cap, put a low-intensity device in a backpack at a busy restaurant in the Brookefield neighbourhood close to Whitefield. The explosion caused injuries to ten people.
In the meantime, the NIA has released CCTV images and recordings of the suspect and announced a monetary reward of Rs 10 lakh for information that results in the bomber’s capture.
The issue at hand is being looked into further.
