MPs From Opposition Held All Night Sit-In Against PM Modi’s Silence Over Manipur Violence

Following the disruption in the House proceeding in last three days, MPs from the Opposition’s newly formed INDIA alliance held night long protest sitting in front of the Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the promises of Parliament.

The Opposition wants a detailed statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Manipur violence ongoing since almost four months now. Many leaders from the Opposition have already submitted notices for adjournment as they want a detailed discussion over the issue.

Leaders from Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and other Opposition parties were on protest throughout the night holding placards that read ‘India for Manipur’.

The MPs held their protest in solidarity with the AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who has been suspended for the remaining part of the Monsoon Session for just asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the Manipur issue in Parliament.

Another Rajya Sabha MP and TMC leader Saket Gokhale taking to his Twitter handle said, “We, MPs, from across parties of Team INDIA took turns to sit together in solidarity with AAP MP Sanjay Singh through the entire night after he was shockingly and unfairly suspended merely for asking PM Modi to discuss Manipur in Parliament.”

The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on 20 July amid the nationwide outrage that took place after a video showing two women being paraded naked in Manipur went viral on Twitter.

The incident took place in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, where two women from Kuki community were paraded naked by a mob of men from Meitei community as an outcome of mere fake news.
