Men Arrested For Killing Girlfriend And Stuffing Body In Refrigerator In Delhi

In the Mitraon village outside of Delhi, close to Najafgarh, the Delhi Police detained a man on Tuesday for the alleged murder and storage of his girlfriend’s body in a refrigerator, according to police. They claimed that the man had committed the crime as a result of the woman’s pressure to marry him despite the fact that his family had found him another partner. The woman had been living with him for the previous five years.

The crime was discovered on Tuesday morning, according to the police, when they got a tip that something wasn’t right with Sahil Gehlot (24), the proprietor of a roadside restaurant, and that Nikki Yadav (22), Gehlot’s girlfriend, had been missing since Gehlot’s wedding last week.

Gehlot broke down and confessed to killing Yadav in the early morning hours of February 10 — hours before his wedding — and stuffing her body in a refrigerator at his restaurant when police called him in for questioning. The eatery had been shut because of his wedding functions, and Gehlot planned to dispose off the body later, police said.

Special commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav stated in January 2018, Gehlot joined a coaching institute in Uttam Nagar to prepare for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams. Around the same time, Yadav, who was from Jhajjar area in Haryana, was preparing for medical entrance exams in another institute in Uttam Nagar. As they both travelled in the same bus, they became buddies.

In February 2018, both took admission at a private university in Greater Noida but in separate courses. They started living together in a leased flat but during the Covid-19 lockdown, they returned to their own houses, authorities added.

After lockdown restrictions were lifted, the pair relocated to a flat in Dwarka Sector-23, before transferring to a rented flat in Uttam Nagar, police said.

Citing Gehlot’s statements, a crime branch officer, on condition of anonymity, said that Gehlot had not told his family about his relationship with Yadav. He became engaged to the woman of his family’s choosing on February 9 as a result of pressure from them, and they planned to wed the following day.

“Yadav discovered Gehlot’s engagement celebration on February 9. She challenged him, but after an altercation, they decided to elope. They attempted to purchase airline tickets to travel to Goa, but when they were unable to do so, they made the decision to board a bus to travel to Himachal Pradesh instead, the officer claimed, citing his admissions.

In Gehlot’s cousin’s Hyundai Verna, the couple reportedly arrived at the Kashmere Gate ISBT in the early hours of February 10 before Gehlot changed his mind. Another police officer with knowledge of the incident stated that Gehlot changed his mind after receiving calls from family members pleading with him to return as soon as possible because the pre-wedding rituals were pending and becoming delayed as a result of his absence.

Gehlot strangled her with his cellphone’s data cable after an altercation broke out when Yadav discovered that Gehlot was adamant about going back to his family. He then put on the seat belt over her torso and drove roughly 50km to his dhaba,” alleged the second officer.

Police stated that after hiding her body in the fridge at his cafe, Gehlot came home and then left for Jhajjar in Haryana with his wedding procession. They claimed that the ceremony for his marriage to the second woman took place that evening. He planned to dispose of the body after the wedding ceremony was done and his guests had returned, they added.
