Maratha quota protest was finally called off after the Maharashtra government accepted all the demands put forth by the leader Manoj Jarange Patil.
Mr Patil was on hunger strike since Friday demanding reservation in education and jobs for the people under Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the Maratha community.
His demands included free education from kindergarten till postgraduate level, reservation in government jobs and Kunbi certificates for all the Marathas.
Kunbi is used to refer the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and so far 37 lakh people have received the certificates and this number should rise up to 50 lakh, said Mr Patil.
The leader had even threatened to march till the Mumbai’s Azad Maidan if his demands were not met. “If the government does not agree, then we will show what we can do, ” he said further.
According to the sources, two of the Maharashtra ministers met Mr Patil late on Friday and following this all his demands were accepted by the government.
