Mahila Court In TN Sentence Assistant Professor 10 Years Of Imprisonment For Luring Girl Students To Offer Sexual Favours

A fast-track court found former assistant professor Nirmala Devi guilty on Monday. Devi caused quite a commotion in Tamil Nadu when she was discovered trying to traffic students. A subsequent time will mark the announcement of the sentence’s length.

When an audio recording of Nirmala Devi trying to persuade students to perform purported favours leaked in 2018, she was an assistant professor at Devanga Arts College in Aruppukottai. The incident sent shockwaves through Tamil Nadu because the then-governor, Banwarilal Purohit, was implicated in the incident.

The audio recording purports that Nirmala Devi was trying to persuade some pupils to do her a favour in return for cash and entry.

“What you need to do is that they (MKU senior staff) are expecting college-going students to accomplish certain things successfully. I haven’t stooped to that level, so I can only say this much. I believe that you will easily understand. They are expecting certain things and have been asking me for so long. I’ll make sure that they don’t touch your marks and financial support will be given,” stated Nirmala Devi.

Following that, the students complained to the Aruppukottai Police, who then brought charges under sections 120 and 370(1), (3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Nirmala Devi, V Murugan, and S Karuppasamy.

The other two defendants were ruled not guilty by the court, while Nirmala Devi was convicted guilty.
