The Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir was hit by two consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.9 and 4.8 early on Tuesday morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
At approximately 6:45 am, the first earthquake, with a Ritcher scale magnitude of 4.9, happened at a depth. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the second earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 and happened at a depth of about 10 kilometres.
No major damage or casualties have been reported as of yet. The situation is being watched by authorities for any new developments.

Because of their hilly topography, the northern and northeastern parts of the nation are particularly vulnerable to earthquakes. There are four seismic zones in India, with Zones 4 and 5 covering the majority of the country’s northern and northeastern regions. These zones are thought to be extremely active seismic zones.
According to India’s earthquake vulnerability map, Zone 5, the most seismically active area, includes Jammu & Kashmir. The potential for earthquake damage is higher in areas with dense populations and strongly undulating terrain.
