Justive BV Nagarathna To Be First Female Chief Justice Of India

In 2027, Justice BV Nagarathna of the Karnataka High Court will become India’s first female Chief Justice. On Tuesday, a five-member collegium of the Supreme Court approved nine names for Supreme Court appointments. Two more women justices and one straight appointment from the Supreme Court bar were among the names cleared by the collegium, which was led by Chief Justice NV Ramana.

Justice Hima Kohli, the chief justice of the Telangana High Court, and Justice Bela Trivedi, a judge in the Gujarat High Court, were the other two women justices chosen in addition to Justice B. Venkataramiah Nagarathna.
