Late on Thursday night in Katihar’s Barari Police Station region of Bihar, unidentified bike-borne assailants shot and killed JD(U) senior politician Kailash Mahto.
Near his home, the 70-year-old JD(U) leader was shot multiple times in the head and stomach.
The leader was reportedly shot dead due to shared animosity over land. A few days prior, the deceased leader had asked the administration for security.
Kailash Mahto lived in Purbi Bari Nagar Panchayat’s Ward No. 12 in the neighbourhood of Barari Thana.
Om Prakash, the SDPO in Katihar, stated: “We have launched an investigation, and the suspects will be taken into custody shortly. There were perhaps four or five rounds of shooting. Only after the post-mortem may more information be provided.
