Amid renewed airstrikes between Israel and Iran, Israel’s military announced it had killed Ali Shadmani, Iran’s wartime chief of staff and a top commander, according to Reuters. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump, speaking from Air Force One, dismissed any idea of a ceasefire, saying, “We’re looking at better than a ceasefire… A real end. Not a ceasefire. An end.” On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump strongly denied reports that he had started talks with Iran about a ceasefire, calling those reports “HIGHLY FABRICATED, FAKE NEWS.” He reiterated that Iran “should have taken the deal that was on the table,” and said, “If they want to talk, they know how to reach me.” Earlier, Trump had suggested sending US envoy Steve Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the stalled nuclear deal.
In the last few hours, sirens sounded multiple times across Israel as Iran launched fresh missile attacks on Tel Aviv early Tuesday, causing people to take shelter. Israel’s emergency services reported no civilian injuries from the latest strikes. Now on the fifth day of the conflict, Israel’s death toll has reached 22, while Iran’s health ministry says at least 224 people have died in Israeli strikes.
World leaders gathered in Canada for the G7 Summit to try to ease tensions between Israel and Iran. French President Emmanuel Macron said Trump told G7 leaders he was considering a ceasefire offer between the two countries. “An offer was made especially to get a ceasefire and then start broader talks,” Macron said. The G7 countries voiced support for Israel and labeled Iran as a source of instability in the Middle East.
At around 7:30 p.m. IST (5 p.m. local time), air raid sirens went off in many parts of Israel after Iran launched another wave of attacks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on X that Iran was attacking again and that several missiles had been fired in the past hour, with most intercepted. About an hour later, Israel’s Home Front Command gave the all-clear for people to leave their bomb shelters.
