Investigators Uncover Sonam’s ‘Plan B’ in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Plot

Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was reportedly so intent on killing him that she even threatened to push him off a mountain herself if the men she hired failed, police sources revealed. According to investigators, Sonam allegedly told her suspected lover and co-conspirator, Raj Kushwaha, “If Vishal, Anand, and Akash can’t kill Raja, I’ll push him down the mountain while taking a photo.”

The plan to kill Raja was reportedly hatched soon after Sonam returned to her maternal home in Indore on May 15, just four days after their wedding. From there, she booked flights to Guwahati and coordinated the plot with Raj through phone calls. To delay intimacy with Raja and buy more time, Sonam convinced him to visit the Kamakhya temple before heading to Meghalaya, framing it as a respectful gesture.

On May 23, the couple checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village, Meghalaya. Ten days later, Raja’s body was discovered about 20 kilometers away in a deep gorge. Police say Raja was killed by three men, Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), Akash Rajput (19), and Anand Kurmi, all friends of Raj Kushwaha and allegedly hired by Sonam. After the murder, Sonam disappeared but later turned herself in on June 8 at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, following the arrests of the three suspects in overnight raids across UP, Indore, and Sagar. Raj Kushwaha (21), the alleged mastermind, was arrested shortly after.

Kushwaha and the other suspects are now in Meghalaya Police’s transit custody. The autopsy revealed Raja suffered two sharp head wounds, one from behind and another from the front, confirming the violent nature of the attack, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said.
