After more than two weeks of searching and a growing list of unanswered questions, the mystery surrounding the missing couple from Indore has taken a shocking turn. In the early hours of Monday, Sonam Raghuvanshi turned herself in to police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, bringing an unexpected twist to the investigation.
Meghalaya Police confirmed that Sonam, who had seemingly vanished from Shillong on May 23, surrendered just days after her husband’s body was discovered at the bottom of a remote gorge in Cherrapunji.
According to a senior official, the honeymoon had a dark motive. Sonam is accused of plotting her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder—allegedly arranging the hit while on their honeymoon, driven by an affair with a man identified as Raj Kushwaha.
Authorities in Meghalaya suspect that an extramarital relationship played a key role in Raja’s murder. According to them, the crime was planned by his wife along with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. Under mounting pressure, she turned herself in on June 8. Both were subsequently taken into custody.
There isn’t much publicly available information about Raj Kushwaha, but the victim’s family has recently spoken out about him.
Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, said that Raj used to work for Sonam and that the two often spoke over the phone. “I’ve never actually seen Raj Kushwaha—just heard his name,” he said in a statement to the media. While Vipul didn’t directly accuse Sonam of the murder, he suggested she might have had a role if Raj was indeed involved.
