Indian Army has asked people of violence-hit Manipur to cooperate to restore peace and tranquility in state.
Women activists in the state have been interfering in the ongoing operations of security forces and also blocking the roads, said the Army.
Taking to the Twitter handle, the Army shared a video on Twitter that highlighted such activities by the women activists.
Last week, in a standoff, a women led mob of around 1,200 people in Itham village of Manipur surrounded the Army that forced them to let go of 12 militants to save civilians.
“Women activists in Manipur are deliberately blocking routes and interfering in Operations of Security Forces. Such unwarranted interference is detrimental to the timely response by Security Forces during critical situations to save lives and property. Indian Army appeals to all sections of the population to support our endeavours in restoring peace,” said the Army.
Earlier, the Army had even praised the commander in charge of the village for taking a “mature decision” that demonstrated the “humane face of the Indian Army”.
“Keeping in view the sensitivity of the use of kinetic force against a large irate mob led by women and likely casualties due to such action, a considered decision was taken to hand over all 12 cadres to the local leader,” the Army said further.
The standoff between the Army and the women activists continued all day on Saturday as the women did not allow the Army to move ahead with the operation.
The women did not let the Army to carry out its security operation and this led the Army to decide and let go of the 12 militants.
In the violence-hit Manipur, women activists have been on frontline to fight against the social evils like domestic violence and dog abuse.
They have even clashed with the security forces and have continuously led protests.
