As of 8 a.m. on Monday, June 9, India reported a total of 6,491 active COVID-19 cases, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. That marks an increase of 358 cases in just 24 hours.
Kerala continues to be the worst-hit state, currently managing 1,957 active cases. The state also logged at least seven new infections in the past day. Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 42 new cases during the same period, bringing its total to 728.
Other states dealing with a significant number of cases include Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Delhi. On the flip side, states like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh remain among the least affected.
In a bit of good news, no COVID-related fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours. Since January 2025, India has recorded 65 deaths due to the virus. Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of these, with 18 deaths, followed by Kerala with 15. Other states reporting fatalities include Karnataka (9), Delhi (7), Tamil Nadu (6), and several others with one or two each.
Over the past day, 624 patients have recovered and been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries since January to 6,861. To stay ahead of any future spike, the central government has rolled out mock drills in hospitals across the country to assess preparedness. These checks focus on critical areas like oxygen supply, ventilator availability, and stock of essential medicines. Health officials noted that the majority of current cases are mild and manageable at home, though they continue to monitor the situation closely.
