India May See Covid Surge In January, Low Chances For High Death Mortality And Hospitalization

Stressing upon the previous patterns of Covid-19 outbreaks, experts have said that India may see a surge in cases in the month of January, said official sources.

“Previously, it has been noticed that a new wave of COVID-19 hits India around 30-35 days after it hits East Asia…. This has been a trend,” said an official.

However, the Health Ministry said that the severity of the new varinat may be less. Despite of a new wave the chances of hospitalization and deaths are very low, they further said.

In last two days, out of 6,000 international passengers 39 have tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival, said sources.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to visit Delhi airport to oversee the testing and screening facilities.

As per the sources, filling up of ‘air suvidha’ forms and 72-hour prior RT-PCR report will be made compulsory from next week for all international arrivals from China, South Korea, Bangkok, Singapore and Japan.

As the news of covid surge in China, Japan, South Korea is floating over the internet, government has asked states to tighten their grips for any unprecedented situation.

On Tuesday the government held mock drills across the country to check preparedness of health facilities to deal with any possible surge in Covid-19.

The new variant which has caused massive surge in China is driven by Omicron sub-variant BF.7.

However, the experts have said the new variant is highly contagious that an infected individual can further infect 16 other individuals.
