According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India on Tuesday dismissed a Pakistan High Commission official in New Delhi for engaging in activities outside of his job and requested that he depart the nation within 24 hours.
The Pakistan High Commission’s Charge d’Affaires received a formal demarche informing them of the decision. However, the government did not reveal the official’s identity or the specifics of the alleged misbehaviour. “The Government of India has declared a Pakistani official, working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, persona non grata for indulging in activities not in keeping with his official status in India. The official has been asked to leave India within 24 hours. Charge d’ Affaires, Pakistan High Commission, was issued a demarche to this effect today,” the MEA statement read.
After New Delhi carried out Operation Sindoor to destroy nine terror installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) in retaliation to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, predominantly tourists, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated.
