Incidences Of Stone Pelting Reported In Gujarat During Ramnavami Procession

On Thursday, Ram Navami-related violence broke out in some areas of Maharastra, Gujarat, and West Bengal (March 30). 56 people were detained in association with reported altercations over music being played outside a mosque while Namaz was taking place in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, the police announced on Friday (March 31).

“The situation is calm right now, and so far, 56 individuals have been taken into custody. CCTV video is being used to identify the accused. According to Krushikesh Rawale, ASP, Jalgaon, Section 144 of the CrPC has been in effect until Friday.

Similar allegations of stone-throwing during a Ram Navami parade in the Fatehpura neighbourhood of Vadodara, Gujarat, were made on Thursday. At least 22 individuals have been apprehended in relation to the event. This violent episode was the second of its kind that day. Before that, a parade in Vadodara’s Kumbharwada neighbourhood was interrupted by stone-throwing.

According to Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, more law enforcement officers have been sent to Vadodara, and those responsible for the unrest will face serious repercussions. Some unruly people tried to hurl stones at the procession, according to Shamsher Singh, the Commissioner CP of Vadodara City, but the police quickly intervened and stopped the problem. Singh stated that the police will deal strongly with the more than 20 people who have been detained.

In West Bengal, police noted that during Ram Navami celebrations, violence and arson incidents were recorded in the Howrah district. When two groups clashed, stores were looted and cars were set on fire. In relation to the incident, a number of individuals were detained, and Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, promised that those responsible would face the full force of the law.

A procession in the Kazipara neighbourhood was the scene of the violence, which resulted in damage to shops and auto rickshaws as well as the burning of several automobiles, including police cars. The police dispatched a sizable police presence to the area to maintain control and used force to disperse the mob. Banerjee claimed that the BJP had recruited goons from other states to organise the violence and accused the party of inciting racial tensions during the festival. She emphasised that she opposed those who incited unrest and urged local residents to exercise caution.
