IMD Issues Red Alert for Coastal Karnataka, Forecasting Heavy Rainfall Until June 16 Morning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for coastal Karnataka, warning of extremely heavy rainfall (over 204.5 mm) on Sunday, June 15, continuing until 8:30 a.m. on June 16.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rain (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm), accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds (40–50 kmph), is expected in Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts. In some areas, rainfall could be extremely heavy.

Heavy rain likely to occur at one or two places Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts on June 18, it said.

Meanwhile, five houses were damaged in rain related incidents in Udupi district in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday.

Of the houses, three were in Kaup taluk and two in Kundapur taluk. The district recorded 59.4 mm rainfall. The highest 72.1 mm rainfall was in Udupi taluk and the lowest 52.6 mm rainfall was in Brahmavar taluk.
