‘How Pragya Thakur Still A Member Of Parliament,’ Swara Bhaskar Over Rahul Gandhi’s Disqualification

After Rahul Gandhi was found guilty of defamation in 2019, the actor Swara Bhasker declared that the “mother of democracy is killing her own child.”

Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker questioned how Pragya Singh Thakur, Sadhvi Pragya, a key defendant in the Malegaon blast case, is still a member of Parliament amid the vocal opposition to Rahul Gandhi’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha following his conviction by a Surat court in a 2019 defamation case. Swara Bhasker tweeted, “Achhe din is when a terror-accused has the full freedom to incite arson and violence.” According to the actor, Russia and Turkey have both reported on the expulsion of an opposition representative from the House of Representatives. According to Swara Bhasker’s essay, “Today India is one of those countries where a democratically elected government and its system are destroying democracy itself.”

Rahul Gandhi was found guilty on Thursday and given a two-year jail term in the 2019 defamation case. Rahul Gandhi was given 30 days to appeal the ruling to higher tribunals while the sentence was suspended. Rahul Gandhi was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday, setting off a significant political controversy.

While the Congress intends to organise a nationwide demonstration, every opposition party has denounced the decision. Rahul Gandhi received backing from Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, K Chandrashekar Rao, MK Stalin, Hemant Soren, Sharad Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, and Uddhav Thackeray. On the other side, the BJP claimed that the suspension was legal. “He only took part in 21 discussions during his entire tenure as an MP. He didn’t even introduce a single private member’s bill; instead, he publicly mocked his own government’s ordinance by calling it absurd. Anurag Thakur, a Union minister, claimed that Rahul Gandhi believed he was superior to the nation, the judiciary, the legislature, and the government.
