As the farmers’ umbrella body SKM announced that they were calling off the farmers’ protests after 378-day-long demonstration, the farmers’ way to their homes can have a huge impact on Punjab’s political landscape. Irrespective of the farmers’ movement being apolitical, the year long campaign has some or the other way have impacted the political parties to change their strategies for the upcoming Punjab assembly polls.
So, the trending question now is, who benefits with tha suspension of the demonstration? Analysts believe that the end the movement will throw interesting for all the political outfits in the upcoming assembly polls.
From Bhartiya Janata Party, to Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, all outfits now think that it can be now anybody’s game and the farmers’ role is the significant one in the new political structure.
Not only mainstream established parties, but the newly Punjab Lok Congress led by the former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also thinks that he can make an impact. Mr Singh will try to play a card in the polls that he was the one who persuaded the Prime Minister to repeal the three farm laws. He is going tie up with the BJP and may take on board other parties like SAD (Dhindsa).
Soon after the win of farmers, Captain was very quick to congratulate them. He said that even when he was the Chief Minister of the state, he not supported the farmers for the repealing of three laws but made sure that they were not suffering or harrassed at the borders.
While Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is also trying to win over all by citing the resignation of senior leader and former cabinet minister Harsimrat Badal in their support to farmers. The party has been saying that they were with the farmers in their fight for the repeal of the laws. But as the party even cited its parted ways with BJP, Captain’s forming of alliance may create some difficulties for SAD.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress in the state has claimed that it will not anything that hurt the interest of the farmers. As the party has been announcing farmers’ friendly announcements after Charanjit Singh Channi took over as the Chief Minister of the state, the party cited it’s decision of providing ₹2 lakh compensation for each of those who were held in connection with the Republic Day violence in Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party is the biggest opposition nos, the part has to decide it’s chief ministerial candidate and also to plan it’s strategy in comparison with the farmers to win against it’s competitors.
The analysts say, in the coming days it would be very interesting to see what issues the parties raise now, what are the new alliances which will be formed and which party will play which card.
