On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would respond appropriately and precisely to any acts of terrorism. This was the Union Home Minister’s first public statement regarding the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Sending a strong warning to terrorists, Amit Shah said, “If anyone thinks that a cowardly attack is their victory, they must remember this is Narendra Modi’s India — and revenge will be taken, one by one.”
He reaffirmed the government’s determination to eradicate terrorism nationwide. “It is our resolve to uproot terrorism from every inch of this country and it will be accomplished,” he said. The Home Minister also mentioned foreign assistance for India’s counterterrorism efforts. “Not only 140 crore Indians but the whole world is standing with India in this fight. All the countries of the world have come together and are standing with the people of India in this fight against terrorism.”
Amit Shah said, “I want to reiterate the resolve that until terrorism is eradicated, our fight will continue and those who have committed it (terror acts) will certainly be given appropriate punishment.” One of the bloodiest attacks on civilians in recent memory was the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed one local and twenty-five tourists. It was necessary to hike or use a pony service to reach the picturesque meadow where the gunmen had planned the attack.
After the April 22 terror attack on tourists in Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam, the Union Home Minister hurried to Srinagar. On April 23, he met with the bereaved relatives and expressed his sympathies. He declared that the “culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared” and placed flowers on the bodies of the victims.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, India’s relations with Pakistan took a sharp turn for the worst. New Delhi announced a number of actions, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and revoking Pakistani nationals’ visas.
