Health-Conscious Shoppers? 83% Indians Read Snack Labels Before Buying

Eighty-three percent of Indian consumers check nutrition labels before purchasing snacks, according to a recent global study that Wonderful Pistachios commissioned in partnership with the research firm Material. According to the report, Gen Xers and Millennials are increasingly choosing conscientious eating.

According to a study, over 60% of people, particularly in Delhi and Ahmedabad, think about selecting foods with a high nutritional value. The study, which polled 2,415 customers in six cities, is a component of a global survey that polled over 12,400 people in ten different nations. It also found that, compared to the global average of 52%, 58% of urban Indian consumers pick snacks based on nutrition rather than taste.

The study also revealed a growing desire for plant-based, high-protein, and healthful meals. The study found that 86% of individuals seek out foods high in protein and 69% believe plant-based proteins are equally effective as those found in meat, which is significantly higher than the global average of 55%.

The study also found that the desire for natural, heart-healthy snacks that offer protein and energy rather than just sating cravings is one of the main variables affecting these choices. In particular, nuts have become more and more popular; in the last six months, 86% of Indians purchased them, compared to 79% worldwide.

This demonstrates that Indians are increasingly selecting foods with more nutritional content and health benefits. Shail Pancholi, the Indian representative for California Pistachios, said, “It’s encouraging to see how Indian consumers are making better decisions and placing a high value on nutrition, particularly protein-rich and natural foods.” Additionally, he stated, “This change highlights how simple, healthful snack options like California pistachios can promote healthier lifestyles.”
