Gold Hits Historic ₹1 Lakh Mark on MCX Amid Global Market Uncertainty

Gold prices surged to record highs on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Friday, June 13, 2025, as investors flocked to safe-haven assets amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The gold futures contract for August 5 delivery opened with a strong gain of ₹1,108 at ₹99,500 per 10 grams, up from its previous close of ₹98,392. It later breached the crucial ₹1 lakh level, climbing to a new lifetime high of ₹1,00,403. At last check, the contract was trading at ₹1,00,165, reflecting a gain of ₹1,773 or 1.80%. The intraday low stood at ₹99,493.

Silver futures also moved higher in early trade. The July 4 contract opened at ₹1,06,450 per kg—₹565 higher than its last close of ₹1,05,885. It later touched an intraday high of ₹1,06,799 before easing slightly. At last trade, it stood at ₹1,06,391, up ₹506 or 0.48%.

In the global market, COMEX gold was trading around $3,447.20 per troy ounce, while spot gold was quoted near $3,427.93 around 10:40 a.m. IST. Rahul Kalantri, Vice President of Commodities at Mehta Equities, noted that gold and silver rallied sharply on the back of Israel-Iran conflict concerns and weaker U.S. macroeconomic data. He said, “Gold surged past the $3,420 level, hitting a six-week high as the dollar index softened. U.S. PPI data pointed to easing inflation and higher jobless claims, fueling hopes of a potential Fed rate cut.”

In Delhi, the 24-carat gold price was quoted at Rs 1,01,550 per 10 grams. For 22-carat gold, the consumer would have to spend Rs 93,100 per 10 grams. In Mumbai, 24-carat gold was available at Rs 1,01,400 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold stood at Rs 92,950 per 10 grams. The 24-carat gold price in Kolkata today was Rs 1,01,400 per 10 grams, while for 22-carat gold, the rate was Rs 92,295 per 10 grams. In Chennai, the 24-carat gold was available for Rs 1,01,400 per 10 grams. For 22-carat gold, the rate was Rs 92,950 per 10 grams.

The price of silver per kg in the national capital was Rs 1,10,000. In Mumbai, the consumer would have to pay Rs 1,10,000 per kg today to buy the precious metal. In Kolkata, the price of 1 kg silver stood at Rs 1,10,000. In Chennai, the price of precious metal stood at Rs 1,20,000 per kg.
