Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah Steps Down From JKNC Party

Farooq Abdullah, a former chief minister, resigned as leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) party on Friday.

The patron of the JKNC declared to his party members in Srinagar, “My health doesn’t permit me to head the party at this time.” Added he, “Any party member may run for the position. It is an exercise in democracy.”

On December 5, the party vice-president and former chief minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, will be chosen as the new party president.

In 1983, Farooq Abdullah first assumed the presidency of the National Conference.
