On March 21, the popular Marathi romantic drama tragedy Sairat, which starred Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar, will be re-released in theaters.
The highly regarded film, which was first released in 2016, was directed by Nagraj Manjule. It centers on two college students from different castes, Archie (Rajguru) and Parshya (Thosar), who fall in love and cause strife between their families. Production banner Zee Studios shared the news of the film’s re-release on Monday in an X post. “Iss zingaat jodi ke saath aap phir se #Sairat hone taiyyar hain? Re-releasing in cinemas on 21st March,” read the caption.
The movie made a stated Rs 4 crore budget, but it ended up earning Rs 110 crore at the box office, making it the highest-grossing Marathi movie ever. At the 63rd National Film Awards, Rajguru was also given the National Film Award—Special Mention.
Sairat’s popularity led to other language remakes, such as the 2018 Hindi movie Dhadak, which starred Ishaan Khatter and Jahnvi Kapoor.
