In Ujjain, the boundary wall next to the Mahakal Temple collapsed on Friday night due to persistent rain. According to the news agency, other individuals are said to be trapped under the debris when the wall collapsed, resulting in two deaths.
The precise number of persons trapped in the debris has not yet been confirmed, however some of the injured have been taken to the hospital. Right now, rescue efforts are in progress.
Twelve or so persons are thought to have been buried under the debris. Up till now, at least four patients have been taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Ujjain Direct Messenger Speaking about the wall fall, Neeraj Kumar Singh claimed that a strong water flow was the reason of the disaster. One man and one woman have died in the wall collapse, he confirmed.
“A part of a boundary wall near Maharajwada School collapsed due to heavy flow of water. Four people were injured in this incident, who were brought to the district hospital. One man and one woman have died, while one girl and a woman have been referred to Indore,” Singh said told news agency.
Ashok Patel, Chief Medical Officer of Health told news agency, “4 people were brought here, 2 among them were declared dead and 2 are undergoing treatment…our team is present here and prepared to receive if more people are brought in…”
Images from the incident showed streams of water on the streets, which had been flooded by the intense rains. Teams from security and rescue could be seen wading through the water to get to the people trapped under the debris.
During the Holi celebrations in March of this year, a major fire broke out in the Ujjain Mahakal Temple. Gulaal fell into the camphor-filled holy fire, igniting a tremendous blaze that started the inferno. Thirteen people were hurt and one person died in the incident.
