ED Arrests BRS Leader K Kavitha In Delhi Liquor Policy Cade

BRS leader K Kavitha was brought to the Enforcement Directorate’s headquarters in the nation’s capital at midnight after being taken into custody by the agency from her Hyderabad home last evening in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Her agency sent her to Delhi so they could question her further about the case.

She underwent medical testing at the agency’s office after arriving in the city.

Today at 10:30 am, the agency is scheduled to present the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao before the Rouse Avenue court in order to request her remand for questioning in custody.

Prohibition orders have been issued, and security surrounding the ED offices has been reinforced this morning.

Reacting to her arrest, Ms Kavitha’s brother and former Telangana minister KT Rama Rao in a post on X said, “Abuse of power and institutional misuse to settle political scores is something that has become increasingly common with BJP government in last 10 years. ED needs to answer the Supreme Court on the inordinate rush to arrest when the matter is very much sub-judice and up for review in a couple of days, on the 19th of March. What’s even more appalling is the ED undermining its own undertaking given to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Justice shall prevail and we will continue to fight legally.”

In a money laundering investigation related to the now-canceled Delhi excise policy, the investigative finance agency on Friday placed Telangana’s 46-year-old Legislative Council member K Kavitha in custody following a dramatic arrest and several hours of raiding her Hyderabad home.

When Ms. Kavitha was arrested at her Hyderabad residence in Banjara Hills, hundreds of her followers demonstrated against the agency’s conduct.

Weeks before the Lok Sabha elections and on the day the state’s Congress government celebrated its 100th day in office, the arrest took place. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a large roadshow in the Hyderabad suburb of Malkajgiri.

The BRS leader was granted immunity from questioning until Wednesday by the Supreme Court, which also heard her appeal against the agency’s summons on Friday. The next hearing will be on Tuesday.
