ECI Assigns Uddhav Thackeray Led Shiv Sena Faction New Party Symbol Of ‘Flaming Torch’

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction was given a “flaming torch” as a new election emblem on Monday by the Election Commission of India (ECI), which forbade the use of any symbols with religious connotations in its decision.

Shinde’s group will be known as the “Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena,” while the Uddhav side would be known as the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). We’re pleased; take note of this significant victory. After receiving the new name, Bhaskar Jadhav remarked, “We are pleased that the three names that important to us most—Uddhav ji, Balasaheb, and Thackeray—are kept in the new name.

The electoral commission has also requested a list of three new emblems from the Shinde faction by tomorrow, October 11, and has designated the “Flaming Torch” as the symbol for Thackeray faction candidates in the current by-election and until a definitive ruling is made in the current dispute.

Uddhav Thackeray, a former chief minister of Maharashtra, filed a petition with the Delhi High Court earlier today asking for the EC’s ruling blocking his party name and the “bow and arrow” electoral symbol for the Andheri East byelection to be reversed.

Uddhav said in his petition that the EC’s order from October 8 was passed in flagrant breach of natural justice principles because the parties and its members were not granted a hearing.
