The apex polling body Election Commission on Tuesday banned all victory processions on the day of vote counting that is on May 2. The counting of votes will be held for five states and UTs which underwent polling in last few weeks starting March 27 and will end on April 29 with last phase in West Bengal.
Five states that were polling for their state legislative assembly were Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry.
This comes as the country is battling with its worst-ever Covid-19 crisis. EC had already issued various restrictions for the election process as well as for those involved in the elections. But the only thing which was seen was breaching of the Covid-19 protocols.
All political parties have completely violated the Covid-19 appropriate behaviour and have done their campaigning, rallies, roadshows with massive crowd by fully ignoring the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the second wave being severe with every passing day many people have started calling elections a super-spreader event. High courts are charging EC with heavy charges for contributing to the second wave.
