DMK MPs Disrupt Rajya Sabha Proceedings, Demand Action on Delimitation Issue

With all eyes on a number of new laws and the Manipur budget, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha both reconvened today at 11 a.m. The Lok Sabha will debate the approval of President’s Rule in Manipur for an hour. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also deliver the Manipur budget. Six hours have been set out for the Manipur budget discussion, which has been grouped with the discussions on the second round of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2024–2025 and the Demands for Excess Grants for 2021–2022.

The Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025, which seeks to update and harmonize India’s immigration regulations, is probably going to be presented in the Lok Sabha today. It is anticipated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will request permission to propose the new bill, which would give the Center the authority to mandate passports or other travel credentials for anybody entering and leaving India. However, the opposition MPs are sure to disagree when the bill is introduced.

The Congress party on Monday evening held a meeting of its MPs with plans to discuss the voter list “manipulation” issue in the Parliament in the second half of the Budget session. According to the news agency, the party is also anticipated to file a significant objection to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. If the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is put up for debate and approval, the opposition party would also reject it and voice its reservations about the delimitation process.
