On Wednesday, the Tamil-Telugu bilingual movie Vaathi’s trailer was launched. The movie appears to be about one man’s struggle against a system that depends on the privatisation of education based on the visuals.
In the movie, Dhanush plays a math instructor. The film, which was directed by Venky Atluri, was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu. SIR is the name of it in Telugu. The movie will debut in all territories on February 17.
Samuthirakani’s persona in the trailer begins by discussing how education is a nonprofit organisation in India. He predicts that private schools would soon replace public ones.
Samuthirakani portrays the head of one of the top universities in the nation. A few frames later, Dhanush is hired as faculty at one of the government schools. Samuthirakani has given him that responsibility.
If the rest of the trailer is any indication, Dhanush opposes Samuthirakani’s plan to convert public schools into more lucrative for-profit institutions, and it appears that their conflict will be the focus of the movie.
In a recent press interview, Venky Atluri discussed the movie and revealed that various events from his life as a student inspired him to make Vaathi.
“I graduated in the top 12 of my class in 1998. At that time, private schools were truly thriving and were gradually replacing public ones. Back then, it had grown to be a significant problem that even implicated the government in resolving. I was inspired by some of these incidents to create Vaathi,” Venky continued.
The privatisation of the education system and how one man resisted it will be highlighted in the movie, which is set in the 1990s, he continued. Dhanush will make his Telugu cinema debut with this project.
