Delhi Witnesses Best Air Quality On Diwali In 8 Years, Air Quality Again In Severe Plus Category

Several areas in Delhi and adjoining areas witnessed a thick haze on Monday morning after people celebrated Diwali with firecrackers despite ban. The thick layers of smog have reduced the visibility to a few hundred meteres.

However, this Diwali the national capital recorded it’s best ever aie quality in last eight years with 218 on Air Quality Index (AQI). But the bursting of firecrackers at evening led to increase in pollution levels.

The air quality at India Gate stood at 999 today morning while, it remained around 900 in many parts of the Delhi-NCR. The two most polluted regions of the city – Anand Vihar and Pusa stood at 849 and 970 on AQI.

Since October end, Delhi and the nearby areas were continuously witnessing a downfall in air quality from ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ categories. On Friday, the city witnessed a significant improvement in air quality after incessant rains. On Saturday and Sunday also Delhi’s skt remained clear.

As per the Air Quality Index (AQI), the AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101- 200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, 401-500 ‘severe’ and above 450 it is considered under ‘severe plus’ category.
