Delhi Schools To Remain Shut, Ban On Non-Essential Constructions As AQI Dips To Severe Category

Delhi records worst air quality ahead of Diwali leading to declaration of air emergency in national capital. Amid the rising levels of pollution Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced shutting down of all government and private all schools on Friday and Saturday.

A ban has been imposed on selling of BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel cars in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad and Gautam Budh Nagar and also on non-essential constructions.

AQI in Delhi today morning stood in poor category with Jahangirpuri at 491, RK Puram at 486, area near IGI Airport at 473 and Lodhi Road stood at 438.

As per the AQI index air quality between 0-50 is considered to be good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and between 401-500 in severe category. Above 500 the air quality is considered to be hazardous.

Despite bans, the scientists have predicted further deterioration in air quality in the Delhi NCR. The AQI at around 10 pm on Thursday dipped to 422, which was the worst in this season.
