The School Fee Act, which governs fee increases for all private schools, was adopted by the Delhi government, which is headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This decision, which was made in response to Delhi’s fee increases, is anticipated to give parents in the capital much-needed relief. The act would become law and put stringent restrictions on private school fee structures if it is approved by the Delhi Assembly.
While announcing this decision, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “There was a panic among children and their parents due to activities being done by school administration. We studied it deeply and took steps in that regard. No previous governments took any steps regarding school fee hikes in Delhi. Since 1973, no provision has been made to address this issue. I am thrilled to share that the Delhi Government has made a historic and courageous decision. The Cabinet has today passed the draft Bill, which will establish comprehensive guidelines and procedures for fees across all 1,677 schools in Delhi, including aided, non-aided, and private institutions. This marks the first time in history that the Delhi Government is drafting such a Bill, which aims to be foolproof”.
Up until now, neither legislation nor clear guidelines had been in place to regulate fee increases or set the prices of private schools in Delhi. Parents all throughout the city are relieved by this decision, which attempts to stop private schools from arbitrarily raising tuition.
Tuition costs, extra fees for particular disciplines (such science or music), and the use of student money are all covered by the Delhi School Fee Act. The government has made the decision to release comprehensive guidelines and procedures regarding fees for all schools, including private, aided, and non-aided ones, in due course.
