Deadly Commute: Four Lose Lives After Falling from Packed Mumbai Train

A tragic accident unfolded during the morning rush in Mumbai on Monday, when four people lost their lives and several others were injured after falling off two overcrowded local trains. The incident took place around 9:30 am between Diva and Kopar stations on the Central Railway line, according to railway officials.

At the time, one train was headed towards Kasara, while the other was en route to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The victims, all believed to be in their early thirties, were reportedly standing on the footboards when they lost balance as the trains crossed paths, causing them to fall onto the tracks.

The guard aboard the Kasara-bound train quickly informed authorities, prompting a rapid emergency response. Railway officials and police, along with ambulances, arrived at the scene to assist the injured. The victims were rushed to Kalwa Hospital, where five passengers were declared dead on arrival.

So far, three of the deceased have been identified: Ketan Dilip Saroj, 23, from Ulhasnagar; Vickey Babasaheb Mukhidal, a 34-year-old railway employee; and Rahul Santosh Gupta. Efforts are underway to identify the fourth victim.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed sorrow over the incident. In a post on X, he said, “It is very unfortunate that a total of eight passengers fell from a local train between Diva and Mumbra stations, and some of them lost their lives. My heartfelt tributes to them. We share the grief of their families.”

In response to the tragedy, the Railway Board announced that all newly manufactured rakes for Mumbai’s suburban network will come equipped with automatic doors. Additionally, steps are being taken to retrofit the existing trains with similar door-closing systems to help prevent such accidents in the future.
