Cyclone Michaung To Make Landfall In Andhra Pradesh, Death Toll Reaches 8

The severe cyclonic continues to intensify over the Bay of Bengal and the cyclone Michaung is expected to make a landfall near Andhra Ptadesh’s Bapatla between Machilipatnam and Nellore at around 11 am today.

The cyclone as resulted into heavy rains in several parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

The authories in Chennai announced holiday for all the educational institutions after the heavy rainfall turned the city’s roads into rivers and vehicles were swept away on Monday. All private offices in the city have also asked their employees to work from home until the situation improves.

So far, the weather conditions have brought the death toll in the state up to eight as the rainfall with heavy winds have led to falling of trees, electric poles and walls.

Cases of waterlogging at the metro stations have also been reported and healthcare facilities have also faced temporary suspension after the floodwaters entered the government hospitals.

Meanwhile, videos of mugger crocodile crossing a submerged road in the city also went viral on social media. The continues rain has also led power cuts and Internet disruptions.

Several flights and trains have also been cancelled because of the cyclone Michaung. No flights were available at the Chennai airport till 9 am today as the runway was flooded that made the situation chaotic for the passengers.
