Curfew Imposed, Shoot-At-Sight Orders In Nainital’s Haldwani After Violence Erupts Over Illegal Construction Of Madrasa

Communal tension erupted in Nainital’s Haldwani area on Thursady following a violence over demolition of an “illegal built” madrasa in Banbhoolpura. The district magistrate issued orders for curfew and “shoot-at-sight” against the rioters in the region.

The death toll in the incident stood two, which was earlier reported three to four in “confusion”. Over 100 police personnel have been injured in the incident.

District Magistrate Vandana Singh said, in order to maintain the law and order situation in the region a curfew has been imposed and also the internet services have also been suspended. All schools in the area will also remain shut till further orders.

According the police, most of injured were immediately hospitalized in the nearby hospitals. Among the injured were police personnel and the municipal workers who were involved in the demolition of the madrasa.

This all came after a notice was issued over the illegally constructed madrasa on the government land, said the senior superintendent of police Prahlad Meena.
