COVID Resurgence? Cases Top 2,700 with 7 Deaths – These 3 States Are Hit Hardest

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s most recent data, the number of active Covid-19 cases in India increased to 2,710, with Kerala accounting for the majority of infections. Following months of decline, coronavirus cases have begun increasing in India; in the week ending May 25, infections increased fivefold and surpassed 1,000.

Kerala has 1,147 cases, followed by Maharashtra (424), Delhi (294), and Gujarat (223), the report shows. West Bengal has registered 116 cases, while Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have each recorded 148. In the last 24 hours, seven more deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of fatalities in the first five months of this year to 22. In the past 24 hours, Maharashtra has reported two deaths, while Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have registered one each. This is the first death recorded in Delhi in the current wave.

The Health Ministry has stated that there is no reason for fear, as the majority of Covid cases have been reported to be moderate. It is possible that Kerala’s high case count is simply the result of the state’s increased testing. Mizoram has also reported two Covid cases, seven months after the last such case was reported in the state.

Although JN.1 is still the most common strain in the nation, two novel Omicron sub-variants, LF.7 and NB.1.8.1, are thought to be causing this unexpected increase in Covid infections. Neither LF.7 nor NB.1.8 have been designated as Variants of Concern (VOCs) or Variants of Interest (VOIs) by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as of yet. According to experts, there is no proof that the novel mutations could result in a serious, long-term illness, even though they could be able to partially circumvent immunity.

The symptoms are largely consistent with those of the common flu. Some symptoms include fever, runny nose, sore throat, headaches, fatigue, exhaustion. Amid the spike in cases, several states have directed hospitals to maintain the availability of beds, oxygen cylinders, testing kits, and vaccines. Elderly and those with co-morbidities have been advised to wear masks while going to crowded areas.
