Court Order Scientific Survey In Gyanvapi Mosque, Report By August 4

A scientific survey has begun into the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi by a team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This came even after a petition was filed by the mosque management committee challenging the order in the Supreme Court.

The survey will be conducted across the complete premise except the sealed “wuzukhana” where a ‘Shivling’ is claimed by the Hindu litigants.

The ASI has been given a deadline to support the report of the survey on August 4.

The Varanasi district court ordered for the scientific survey in the on Friday. Four women worshipers had filed petition last year claiming that there is a ‘Shivling’ inside the mosque and that the Gyanvapi mosque was built after destroying ancient Hindu temple.

The district court while pronouncing the order said that a detailed scientific inquiry was significant to dig out the “true facts” about the mosque.

Representative of the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi case, Subhash Nadan Chaturvedi said the new order by the district court will be a turning point in the issue.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court had deferred the scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque in May this year.
