According to a police officer, a young man and lady of different religions were attacked and heckled by a crowd as they exited a hotel in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and two people who rushed to the couple’s aid were stabbed.
Two people from the about 20-person mob have been arrested as a result of the event, whose social media video went viral. The incident happened on Thursday night in the city, he added. India Today was unable to independently confirm the video’s veracity.
Rajesh Raghuvanshi, an additional deputy commissioner of police, stated that as the woman and man left the hotel after eating, the mob pursued, cornered and interrogated the woman about why she was with a guy of a different faith.
“The woman claimed that she had informed her parents that she was coming to have supper with the man. She also disapproved of their improper conduct. Two people who rushed to the couple’s aid, however, sustained injuries after being attacked with a knife by a member of the mob, according to the Additional DCP.
According to Kamlesh Sharma, the in charge of the Tukoganj police station, a complaint has been filed under section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder), and seven defendants have been identified thus far.
According to Sharma, attempts are being made to identify and apprehend the other 20 or so members of the crowd. Two of the accused, who are in the 23–26 age range, have already been apprehended.
