Congress Leadership Race Heats Up, Parliamentary Party Meeting Called for June 8

On June 8, the newly elected members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha will convene as the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) to choose the party’s leader.

Sonia Gandhi, the head of the CPP at the moment, decided not to run for her usual Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and has since relocated to the Rajya Sabha.

Senior leaders will probably push for Rahul Gandhi to take on the role of Leader of the Opposition (LoP), in addition to re-electing Ms. Gandhi as head of the Parliamentary Party.

According to sources, recently elected Members of Parliament, including K.C. Venugopal, Gaurav Gogoi, and Manickam Tagore, might advocate for this action. The CPP chairperson has the option to answer calls right now or decide later.

In the morning, the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) will also convene to deliberate on the outcomes of the Lok Sabha and the subsequent course of action.

The gathering, which will start at 11 a.m. at the Congress headquarters, will be presided over by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
