Congress In Its Sharp Attack Alleges Centre Of Using Central Agencies To Target Opposition

The opposition party launched a full-scale attack on the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the day that Congress President Sonia Gandhi is due to appear before the Enforcement Directorate, accusing them of being intolerant and using agencies as political tools to overthrow elected governments and harass political rivals.

Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, gave a press conference on Thursday morning at the AICC headquarters. He criticized the ED for summoning Sonia Gandhi, saying that there was no basis for doing so under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the case involving the National Herald.

The ED authorities should have visited her home and recorded her statement, he added, as that would have been a respectable approach to handle the situation if she had needed to be questioned for clarification. However, the goal is to harass rather than to look into.

In a tweet, even the united opposition’s nominee for president, Yashwant Sinha, stated: “I strongly deplore the attitude of ED to humiliate political leaders. Even if they had questions for Sonia Gandhi, the ED officers ought to have visited her home.

Gehlot added that the peaceful Congressmen were being denied access to “our office” because the Delhi Police had transformed the party headquarters into a “chhavni.” He declared, “Our employees are calmly chanting bhajans to denounce the bad government policies. Dharna and pradarshan (protests) are indisputable decorations for democracy. But because he wants to impose dictatorship on the nation, Modi Ji does not grasp it, he claimed.

Gehlot claimed that the Prime Minister only wants “one nation and one election” for this reason because he “would not have any problem” giving post-retirement revaris (obligations) to officers who helped him in his political plans.

Earlier, in Parliament, a number of opposition parties showed their support for Sonia Gandhi by attending a meeting in Mallikarjun Kharge’s office and issuing a joint statement. The DMK, CPI(M), CPI, IUML, National Conference, TRS, MDMK, NCP, VCK, Shiv Sena, and RJD were the parties represented in the meeting.

“The Modi Sarkar has unleashed a relentless campaign of vendetta against political opponents and critics through the cunning exploitation of investigative agencies,” the opposition parties claimed in a joint statement. Political party leaders who are well-known have been purposefully singled out and harassed in ways never before seen.

The leaders issued a statement saying, “We condemn this and resolve to continue and increase our joint fight against the anti-people, anti-farmer, and anti-Constitution policies of the Modi sarkar that are tearing apart the social fabric of our country.
